Artist Statement

As a landscape painter who usually responds to remote rural environments the urbanized nature of Coogee Bay presented unusual creative challenges. I found the harsh geometry of telegraph poles, fences, park benches, pathways and council signage jarring on the eye and discordant with the natural beauty of the beach and surrounding parklands. With this series of paintings I have investigated shapes and patterns evident when the organic juxtaposes the hard edges of man made geometry. I have responded in a direct and honest way to the immediate locale, letting ‘life’ throw up interesting visual
