Handcast sculpture in bonded bronze powder and polymer resin. Signed on base.
This sculpture is the first cast, or artist's proof, taken from the bronze version of Circe, commissioned by the Art Gallery of NSW in 1997 - 1998. It acted as the standard for the gallery's limited edition of 100; the single "proof" before the main edition, finished by sculptor Vanessa Hoheb. Height: 57.5 cm
The large scale version of Circe, made by Mackennel in 1893, was cast in 1901 and is in the National Gallery of Victoria.
